Aligarh Muslim University (abbreviated as AMU) is a public central university in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India, which was initially established as Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875 by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Aligarh was formed by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan in 1920, taking the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College to the next level, becoming one of India's most prominent institutions of learning. It was in 1920 that Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College became the Aligarh Muslim University, with its campus located in Aligarh City.

In the wake of India's war for independence in 1857, the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College was founded based on the belief that education must be made accessible to Muslim students.

Aligarh Muslim University offers more than 300 degrees, organized across around 12 faculties, offering CUET courses in an array of technical and professional subjects, and also in multidisciplinary subjects.

Spread across 1155 acres of land in the city of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India, the University offers 156 courses, with students studying from various parts of India, and also the worlds like Asia and Africa.

Earlier the college admission process was based on scores obtained AMUEE exam, however, from this academic year 2022, CUET UG 2022 scores will be considered.

Aligarh Muslim University Seats

AMU reserves 50% seats for students from Madaris/institutions/schools recognized by universities for the different bachelor's courses. AMU offers one-year Bridge Courses to students of madrasas, prior to their inclusion into the University Education.

The Commerce Department at AMU offers admissions for 3-year Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) programs at its Aligarh Campus to students who have passed class XII. Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is soon going to boost its intakes for the LLB and LLM courses, conducted by its Law department.

Days after Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath demanded Dalits be given quotas in minority-run institutions, AMU has clarified that the AMU has never followed quota-based policies of reservation of seats based on religion or caste. The Aligarh Muslim University announced it would be adopting Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for all bachelor's courses while maintaining the in-house quota offered by the university would remain intact.
